Not as well known as the flea market scene in Paris, auction houses abound and are an interesting venue to find treasures both simple and sublime.  The world-class house you will visit holds multiple auctions simultaneously while also hosting previews for the following day.  It is the ultimate challenge to cover all rooms and can take up a good portion of the day if you have your eye on an item in the very last lot to come up for bid.

Inevitably, the rush of the “win” can take over, and watching a bidding war act out on a portrait whose provenance is early 18th century is exciting and amazingly quick.  Bidding into the tens of thousands of dollars doesn’t necessarily take very long and is fun to watch! Or participate in.

Your guide can assist you in the bidding process (knowing your numbers in French is vital), can get you set up with a paddle number and help you arrange to ship all your “winnings” back home, wherever that might be.
