Vaux Le Vicomte is the lesser known château is in impeccable condition and the park was the first “French style” garden – geometric patterns being the outstanding feature.

Impressed by the work of Le Vau, Le Brun and Le Notre, but furious that mere Finance Steward Nicolas Fouquet could dare to set himself up in such grandeur, Lous XIV commissioned the three illustrious artists to build an even more lavish residence at Versailles (and promptly sentenced the offending official to life imprisonment).

After touring Vaux-le-Vicomte you will travel to Barbizon, a charming French village, for lunch, before visiting the wonderful village of Moret-sur-Loing or Chateau Fontainebleau, which has been recently restored.
